BYTEBACK - your FREE computer recycling solutionByteback is a free computer take-back program to help people dispose of end-of-life equipment, or equipment that has reached the end of its useful life responsibly. Byteback is currently operating in Victoria only. Planet Ark's Recycling Near You website lists similar programs in other states. Individuals and small businesses can deposit unwanted computer equipment at Byteback locations. The Byteback program is being trialed in Victoria and is expected to run until the middle of 2011 and will assist the development of a national framework for the responsible collection and disposal of end-of-life computer equipment. AIIA and Sustainability Victoria agreed to extend the trial so that it could integrate naturally into the roll-out of the National Television and Computer Product Stewarship Scheme. Click on the link to find out how this is progressing. Industry anticipates that the scheme will be ready before the trial concludes. Byteback is an Australian first as government and industry are sharing responsibility for disposing of computer waste safely. Sustainability Victoria is running Byteback in partnership with the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and founding partners Apple, Canon, Dell, Epson, Fujitsu, Fuji-Xerox, HP, IBM, Lenovo, and Lexmark. If you cannot get to one of our site locations, or have a larger stockpile of equipment that you no longer want, please consider other options to dispose of those products in a responsible way. Sustainability Victoria has a search engine on their website to find recycling services ('Find a Service').
